Student yacht race: all aboard with the IFP School crew!

    February 12, 2015

“Up sails! Set the spinnaker! Prepare to tack!” ….. a few of the orders given by the “IFP School-Perenco” team, who took part in the 22nd Coupe de France Étudiants (CFE) in Marseilles on 7 and 8 February 2015.

The “IFP School-Perenco" team was made up of 7 students from different programs:

    - Edmond Chénel (DEG)
    - Pierre Galotte (DEG)
    - Paul-Arthur Jeantaud (DEG)
    - Ivan Kukva (PEM)
    - Fares Pantaleo (DEG)
    - Jean-Gabriel Pérouse (DEG)
    - François Picard (DEG)

The students began the competition on Saturday 7 February in good weather conditions. They carried out their first manoeuvers as a team, practiced for several laps, then competed with the other participants.

The next day, the weather turned and the team had to cope with severe conditions.
“We were up against windspeeds of 25 knots and raging seas! The organizing committee envisaged cancelling the race in such conditions,” explained Pierre Galotte, who was taking part in his first regatta.

“Team spirit and motivation, however, enabled us to stand up to these difficulties while other teams dropped out,” he continued.

This year, the team’s objectives are to pass on their passion for sailing to students who are novices to the sport, take part in high level regattas (the ArMen Race) and promote experience-sharing amongst students.

The “IFP School-Perenco” team finished this first competition in 15th position.
Stand by for the next regatta in March at La Rochelle!
