IFPEN/IFP School on the brink of winning the Cup

June 17, 2015

On 22 May 2015, the IFPEN/IFP School crew set off for the 36th “Coupe du Pétrole de Voile” yacht race (ACPV).

Seven crew members who were sailing together for the first time, Bertrand Gatellier (helmsman and skipper), Michel Castagné (tactician/navigator and second mate), Jean Marc Gratien (mainsail trimmer), Victor Dupin and Louis Jordan (foresail trimmers), Corinne Fichen (ropes) and Corentin Villemur (bowman, No.1), a student in the IFP School Petroleum Engineering and Project Development program (DEG), challenged other sailing enthusiasts from the world of oil and gas.

During the four-day regatta, they gave it their all in eight frantic races between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight in England. They were number one in the overall ranking in the first two days but the crew found themselves in difficulty the third day in the race round the island when they got caught up in an area with no wind and were overtaken by other teams despite being head of the peloton up until then.

Despite these troubles, our crew came second in the “Coupe du Pétrole”, only one point behind the winner, Géocéan. A great performance - well done to all members of the IFPEN/IFP School crew!
