• Olivier Massol, Scientific Assistant to the Director of IFP School, and Omer Rifaat, a graduate of the Master of Energy and Markets (class of 2015), have just co-authored the article "Phasing out the U.S. Federal Helium Reserve: Policy insights from a world helium model", published in the scientific journal Resource and Energy Economics.

Synergy with the School

The synergy between IFP School and IFP Energies nouvelles research divisions, in addition to the doctoral theses, concerns teaching, software use and access to the research laboratories.


With some hundred IFP Energies nouvelles researchers involved in IFP School Master's programs, students raise their awareness of the latest technological advances in research into technical areas relating to hydrocarbons and engines as well as new energy technologies.

Researchers’ participation in IFP School teaching extends to field trips that are a part of certain programs, in particular in the geosciences.


Many software programs developed by IFP Energies nouvelles are used by faculty and students at the School for supervised classwork and practical exercises.


  • in Exploration - Production, supervised classwork where sedimentary basins and reservoirs are simulated makes use of the latest software versions developed by IFP Energies nouvelles research: Temispack, Fraca, Heresim, Condor and Cougar.


  • in Energy and Processes, "Process control" courses include practical exercises on a real-time refining process simulator designed by IFP Energies nouvelles.


  • in Energy and Powertrains, and in Powertrain Engineering, the supervised classwork uses Amesim, a system modeling software program produced through a partnership between IFP Energies nouvelles R&D and Imagine, and practical exercises on test benches are conducted using Anaco and Anadid, software that analyzes combustion in engines.

  • engine test benches (seven weeks' use of a diesel engine test bench and seven of a gasoline engine test bench for the Energy and Powertrains, Powertrain Engineering, and Energy and Products programs), a vehicle rolling road test bench (Energy and Powertrains and Powertrain Engineering programs), and an engine part dimensioning and metrology laboratory (Energy and Products program).
  • the practical exercises for the Petroleum Engineering and Project Development program in the field of drilling fluids and cementing use the laboratories of the Applied Chemistry and Physico-Chemistry research division (displacement loop and rheometers).
